Pop-country star (1923–1964) who enjoyed international fame until his tragic death in a plane crash at age 40. Handwritten lyrics in pencil, unsigned, one page, 8 x 10.5, no date. Reeves writes the 20 lines of lyrics for the song ‘Vagabond Baby,’ in part: “Vag, baby, take off your walkin’ shoes— / Come on back & read the hometown news— / It says hometown girl make good— / somehow, I always knew you would, / Vag, baby, be careful what you do.” The lyrics to ‘I Couldn’t Believe It Was True’ are typed on the reverse. In very good condition, with heavy overall creases, several edge tears (some extending into Reeves’s writing), and dampstaining to the lower left. Previously sold by Christie’s, 2005. Accompanied by a telegram requesting a publicity photo and a 1962 copy of The Saharan magazine. Also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.
