Jim Henson Original Early ''Muppets'' Character Sketch
Early ''Muppets'' sketch and handwritten notes by the show's legendary creator, Jim Henson, used in a pitch meeting by Henson to promote the Muppets. The Muppets made one of their early debuts on 13 October 1974 with a guest spot on a Herb Alpert television special. Sketch with handwritten notes by Henson portrays a scene for the variety show, ''Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass'' which became the very first on-air debut of a few of the Muppets characters. Henson pitched to ATV Studios in London, sending them this board in anticipation of a 1974 pitch meeting. ''The Muppet Show'' filmed two pilots, one in 1974 and one in 1975 before being aired in 1976. Story-board type sheet has detailed handwritten notes in now-faded ink by Henson envisioning the Muppets performances with the Herb Alpert band: ''Muppet Dance Pieces / 4 numbers - each 2 minutes of under - Possibly use a set-up where the Muppet area is next to the band - or apparently: area in front of the band for numbers 2 & 4. Background darkish - floor dark''. With a color pencil sketch of six band members and three Muppets, with two proposed positions by Henson of where the Muppets should go. White board measures 6.75'' x 10.5'' and is framed in a transparent acrylic case equipped with wall mountings to an overall size of 10.25'' x 14.5''. A couple minor scratches to case, toning to board and faded ink, else near fine condition overall.
