ALS signed "Jessie Fremont," four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, January 16, [no year]. Lengthy handwritten letter to "Mr. Conway," in part: "The General is out just now, & will be before the Committee tomorrow at ten--for an hour or perhaps several--but the rest of the time is open for your fixing an appointment. You must not go out of town without letting me tell you how comfortingly some words spoken by you have lodged in my heart…I see only darkness gathering in the political world--the thick darkness of the slave power. Here is a sort of vulgarized Belshazzar's feast & whoever looks up the wall is cried down. But you & the other faithful watchmen…are doing the most patriotic as well as the most Christian of works…Mr. Fremont's position just now, gives him no public voice & I am only a woman. But in the revolution our grandmothers moulded bullets (to be sure the men used them up which was encouraging) so I may be able to help you to a few rounds of ammunition." In fine condition, with a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
