The present fine landscape painting depicting a trout pond is the work of the English painter and engraver Jessica Landseer (1810-1880). The idyllic composition thrills not only by the delicate brush work, but also by the subtly nuanced color shades.



There is a bill of the auction house Phillips from 1986 on the verso, including the reference to the Art Journal of 1898, in which the painting was attributed to Jessica Landseer and titled ‘The Trout Pool’. The varnished painting is optically in good condition with some wear and framing marks due to age. The varnish conceals some prior areas of retouching. The artist’s board is slightly convex. The gilt stucco frame shows small nicks. The overall dimensions, framed, are 34.5 x 42.5 cm, and the artist’s board measures 23 x 31 cm. (cko)
