Composer (1922–1980) best known for his film scores, including The Wild Bunch, Straw Dogs, and The Outlaw Josey Wales. TLS, two pages, 8.5 x 11, June 22, 1979. Response to an admirer. In part: “For the past three months and more I have been desperately racing to finish two back to back picture scores…For my own purposes (in getting to know just who my most appreciative audience is)…I would be interested in knowing which of my scores you like best and which you like least…(or even dislike altogether)…You also state that you are a young composer…when you ask who has been most influential with me, I find it’s not such an easy question to answer simply. At many different stages of my own development I did, as you will do, pass through many different varieties of hero worship…At present my appreciation spectrum has widened considerably at both ends of the scale. I am at once an avid admirer and student of Bartok, Ginastera, Takemitsu, Webern, Berg, etc., and also of Stravinsky, Mahler, Strauss, Beethoven, Mozart and on back through Palestrina and before.” Light toning and small tears to top edge, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
