Lengthy handwritten firsthand account of Coley’s experience in the aftermath of the assassination, three pages on one 8.5 x 11 sheet and two 8.5 x 13.25 lined sheets, signed at the beginning, “Jerry Coley,” and again at the conclusion, “Jerry W. Coley.” In part: “I crossed over as this loud noise was echoing I couldn't tell how many bangs actually were happening or where it was coming from. I was watching the motorcade standing on a temporary ‘No Parking Sign’ mounted on a block of concrete in the driveway of the county jail prisoner pickup. As we crossed the street between cars of the motorcade we could see motorcycles thrown down on the sidewalk next to the grassy knoll and police and people running toward and looking back toward the picket fence and railroad tracks—NOT the book depository. As I was going thru the north pergola toward the old picket fence a county mounty in brown uniform & shotgun told me ‘So get the hell out'…my wife began to receive strange unidentified phone calls about ‘Coley better shut his mouth or you and your kids will not live.’ We had 5 calls in the next three days…Sunday morning we watched Jack Ruby shoot Oswald on TV. I knew Jack as he came to our offices every Friday to place his week end ads on his strip joints…A few days after Ruby shot Oswald, two men appeared at my desk—flashed FBI credentials they said and wanted to talk to me in private…When I got to the part about the pool of blood, they stopped me and asked that I go get Jim Hord and have him bring camera, prints and negatives…We asked the agents about the blood and one of them replied ‘It never happened, you saw nothing and the both of you will keep quiet if you know what’s best.’ They took the prints and negatives and left.” Also includes a map of Dealey Plaza on which Coley labeled and described his movement during the moments following the assassination. In overall fine condition.
