Shaped like a loaf of bread,figure eight or beautiful keyhole this rare Jenny Lind trunk mid 19th century has embossed designs in the black leather exterior design with large brass nail head rivet inserts holding 5 metal straps on the top which can be used as a coffee table as well. Leather handles on either end. Leather strapping on the front has been removed. Interior lid lined in blue and cream design paper,upper wooden deep compartment of dark orange with green and gilt design and remains of travel stickers from around the globe on the wooden side. The bottom portion is lined in painted deep rosy coral canvas with wood side supports. Leather brown pulls on the upper compartment one attached,one loose which could be re-glued. Swiveling hardware to open the wooden case working brass lock and key. These trunks are from the Civil War period,very scarce and costly as quite a bit more work to create and sold for a premium. The top model from any trunk manufacturer. Named after the Swedish singer known as the Swedish Nightingale who toured the US with PT Barnum in the early 1850's and had one with her,thus they became the rage for several years. Wonderful condition with minor age from wear,scuffing to left spot on top worn smooth. Measures 17.5H X 16D X 25.75L (27 with handles).
