Thomas Jefferson four language ship's paper signed as President, dated 14 July 1804. Countersigned by James Madison as Secretary of State. Document allows Master Commander James Kennedy's ship ''Experiment'' to pass with goods and merchandise without hindrance and reads in part, ''...lying at present at the port of New Orleans bound for Liverpool and laden with cotton & logwood.'' Large, bold ''Th: Jefferson'' signature. Includes original handwritten notary's certification affixed to edge at lower right, and an embossed seal intact at center left. Document, measuring 20.5'' x 16.5'', has folds throughout, with one horizontal fold lightly touching top edge of signature. A few partial separations have been archivally reinforced on verso. Mild feathering to Madison's signature, else near fine condition.
