This splendid gold compact, by the renowned jewelry designer Jean Schlumberger (1907-87), takes the form of a zinnia. The top is embellished with blue, red, and yellow natural sapphires. The mirror and screen are intact. The interior is marked flanking the hinge "SCHLUMBERGER" and "18KT". Schlumberger designed for Elsa Schiaparelli. His exotic and whimsical designs caught the eye of many fashionable women, including Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo, the Duchess of Windsor, Audrey Hepburn, and Jacqueline Onassis. On February 20th 1956 the president of Tiffany & Co. invited him to join the Compay. Reference with photo is found in the book: "The jewels of Jean Schlumberger" Harry N. Abrams, Inc. (2001), p. 68
