Distinguished French director (1894–1979) whose 1939 classic Rules of the Game takes a place among the most acclaimed films ever made. Partly-printed DS, in French, one page, 6.75 x 4.25, February 23, 1934. Renoir signs a receipt for a payment of 5000 francs from Nouvelle Societe de Film, the production company that made Madame Bovary, the screen adaptation of Flaubert’s novel written and directed by Renoir. The film had been released two months earlier. A central vertical fold, some diagonal creases to left side, and a rusty paper clip mark to top left, otherwise fine condition.
