Jean-Pierre Aumont Handwritten Note & Signature
Jean-Pierre Aumont Handwritten Note & Signature - Legendary French actor Jean-Pierre Aumont garnered more prestigious awards than anyone in Hollywood. Having started a successful career in Hollywood after leaving France when the Nazi's took over in the late 1930's, he decided he had to go back and fight for his country. For his bravery in battle he was awarded the Legion d'Honneur and the Croix de Guerre by the French Government. as well as receiving, near the end of his career, the cross of Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres, and a César Award (the French Oscar). He was known for his incredible stage work, as well as starring in many French classic motion pictures, as well as such American iconic films as "The Devil at 4 O'clock" with Frank Sinatra and Spencer Tracy and Sydney Pollack's "Castle Keep". He is perhaps best known for his hauntingly autobiographical portrayal of an aging French actor in François Truffaut's magnificent love poem to movie making, "Day for Night". He was close friends with many of Hollywood's elite, including Van Johnson and his wife Evie. This is a rare handwritten note from Aumont which occupied a basket of expensive French Wines and cheese to celebrate Van's 40th birthday in 1956. In his handwriting he has inscribed: "With the love of a Frenchie fan-Jean Pierre Aumont". Being a rather private man, who liked the peace of the rural world, notes, or autographs of this actor-hero are quite rare. This comes directly from Van Johnson's personal collection, and includes a Letter of Provenience from the Johnson’s daughter, Schuyler Johnson along with a copy of her famous controversial cover story article “My Life As A Hollywood Princess”, about her trials and tribulations growing up in Beverly Hills with a superstar father and extended “family” with some of the most famous celebrities in the world.
