Two Jean-Michel Basquiat hand painted postcards one featuring Muhammad Ali and the other a crown which is said he saw himself as a king. Both are 5 1/4 x 3 1/4. He supported himself by selling T-shirts and homemade post cards circa 1980's from Subway streets of lower Manhattan. Mounted and framed with a photo of Basquiat and supplied with coa.

Jean-Michel Basquiat was born December 22, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York and was an American artist, musician, and producer from New York City. His diverse cultural heritage was a source of inspiration for his art as his mother was Puerto Rican and his father Haitian-American. Basquiat was a self-taught artist and started drawing at a young age. In NYC in the late 70s, he was under the name "SAMO" and using graffiti to tag subways and buildings throughout the city. He dropped out of high school a year prior to graduation and sold sweatshirts and postcards of his artwork to make money at the time. He did this for about three years until in 1980 his work was featured in art exhibitions and in that same year he collaborated with Andy Warhol. With becoming more popular, his personal problems increased.
