French Classicist painter and sculptor (1815–1891) famous for his depictions of Napoleon, his armies, and military themes. ALS in French, signed “E. Meissonier,” one page, 4.25 x 6, personal letterhead, no date. In full (translated): “My dear Georges, here is the painting. Do not forget to write to this man in order to tell him to come at 9 next Saturday morning. Tell him that I want to take my painting back home in Poissy, because if I can’t, I will be late in my work and I would really like to finish it. Please order a frame to Souty for the painting. Here are the measures of the frame: 1. 12. to 90.” Central horizontal and vertical fold, a uniform shade of toning, and a touch of light soiling, otherwise fine condition.
