Important Swiss-French philosopher and writer who held that the individual is essentially good but usually corrupted by society (1712–1778). DS in French, signed “J. J. Rousseau,” one page, 8.5 x 11.75, no date. Untranslated certificate honoring Charles Pinot Duclos, a member of the Academy of Inscriptions and of the Academie Francaise. In fine condition, with expected document wear. An appealing document boasting an unusually large signature of this most important historical figure.
