Artist Biography - Jean-Francois Dewulf
(1968-

Jean-Francois Dewulf was born on May 15, 1968 in Waterloos, a little town in the north of France, close to the border with Belgium.

His interest in painting rises when he was a young boy; with his grandfather, also a painter, he started manipulating brushes before even writing.

Thanks to his Flemish origins, he quickly became passionately fond of the painters of his region, especially Wilhem Claesz, whose works he started copying. Step by step, a marked taste for still lives asserts itself in him.

After studies in art history, he settled in Paris and started, on top of his work, to paint. Quickly and by word of mouth, he was getting known outside of the French borders, especially in Madrid (Spain), Quebec (Canada) and in the USA.

Furthermore, his talent allows him to meet Thierry Adam, interior decorator and first “Blue Collar Worker of France”, with whom he worked.

He specializes in big format portraits and still lifes in which we find his love for sharp colors and light.

He often paints the background of his painting with monochrome APPLATS, preferably gray, which reminds him of the sky of his birthplace.
