Interesting document signed by jazz great Hampton Hawes, who files a claim for $112.50 in 1946 against night club owner J.C. Copeland in Los Angeles. Hawes states in type that ''We had a contract for four weekends. After working, the employer stated that he did not require our services any longer, and after the contract had been signed, Mr. Copeland inserted the word 'option' into the contract.'' Singed in black ink ''Hampton Hawes / 1228 W. 35th St.'' at the bottom of the 8.5'' x 11'' document. Very good to near fine condition.
