American jazz trombonist, composer and arranger (1924–2001), who was one of the first trombonists to embrace bebop music. Johnson has long been regarded as one of the leading and most influential trombonists of the post-swing era. Scarce vintage glossy 8 x 10 publicity photo of Johnson holding his trombone in a cheerful half-length seated pose, signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "To the Hot Club, Best wishes, always, J J Johnson.” In fine condition, with creasing to the bottom border.
