Item/Description: Javanese Indonesian Keris, a traditional ceremonial spiritual dagger and sacred heirloom weapon. Handle made of ox bone/horn intricately carved with nature motifs. Iron blade pierced with circular holes. Origin of circular holes is unclear. (Kris, Ngeris, Java, Indonesia, Southeast Asian)

A keris is a traditional, asymmetrical Indonesian and Southeast Asian dagger crafted by an empu, master bladesmith. The empu is a highly skilled artisan who uses specialized techniques, often incorporating spiritual rituals, mantras, ancient wisdom, and symbolic processes, to forge the blade from layers of iron and nickel/pamour. Empus imbue the keris with mystical properties during the forging process, which can take months or even a lifetime. Kerises are often used in ceremonial practices and rituals, for healing, protection, and spirit communication. In 2005, UNESCO designated the keris as a Masterpiece of Humanity's Oral and Intangible Heritage.
