Japanese samurai style sword with elaborate 19th to early 20th century cloisonné enamel mountings in multi colors showing butterflies and stylized crests. The sword measures 39” overall with 26-1/4” blade. The blade is oil tempered and of 20th century. The sword is mounted with a iron and gold inlaid tsuba which is nicely pierced and shows a figure of samurai in armor. The blade is in good condition. The mounts arein very good plus to near fine condition with simple brass accents. These works of art were favored by merchants and courtesans and worn as jewelry and a sign of wealth.
