The top of the Kashima (pommel) features an depiction of a bird in flight with cherry blossoms, the Fuchi (collar) dipicts cherry blossoms. 19" blade with wavy tempered line. The blade’s Nakago (tang) has one Mekugi-Ana (peg hole). Ray skin hilt with indigo blue cloth wrapping. Samurai valued indigo-dyed blue cloth not only for its perceived protective and healing properties but also for its symbolic associations with loyalty, wisdom, tranquility, and victory the Menuki appear to be a octopus (Hard to see with the wrap). Missing the Tsuba, has three spacers. Two toned black/brown scabbard, inletted for Kozuka knife which is missing. Tang is unsigned. Overall very good condition, blade is bright with some minor scratches. Would be a really nice Wakizashi with correct Tusuba and Kozuka..
