“Winners will be notified after the auction ends and once all bids have been processed to determine the winner for each lot”
Elaborate set of 14 WWII Japanese propaganda prints used in the ''Kamishibai'' form of storytelling, by which important messages and morals were told through pictures, particularly targeted at illiterate populations. Illustrated cards, with text written in Japanese characters on verso (translations provided), propagandize the Japanese war effort: that Japan desired peace while America and Britain sought war; that America stole the Philippines and Hawaii; that Great Britain took Australia; that opium sales in China were being conducted by the major powers; and that Japan wanted to free Asia from these evil powers. Cards read: (1) ''Complete the Greater East Asia War…'' and on verso: ''…When it's the point of losing all patience of 100 million Japanese people, the solemn imperial decision was given…the whole nation's deep emotion was broken loose all at once…This is the Japanese national, real through all the ages. The United States and Great Britain are two big countries in the world. They are a good match for the opponent. We will leave for the foundation of war with the 3,000 years of Japanese empire history for world's new establishment. How piquant it is!'' (2) ''…Three principles of foreign diplomacy: 1. Mustn't bother for completing the Second Sino-Japanese War 2. Break a military blockade and economic blockade 3. Prevent spreading the East Asia by Europe war revenge…'' (3) ''…The United States 1942 / Expenses of war: 56 billion, Airplane: 125 thousand, Tank: 75 thousand, Antiaircraft artillery: 35 thousand, Ship: 10 million…'' Each card measures 14.5'' x 10'' on heavy card stock. The first card in the series has a small chip at bottom right, else near fine condition.
