Japanese Tanto, Kanmori-otoshi style, 9.5'' blade, single edge and flattened back, with groove running almost full-length. Similar to the ''mokubi'' style, this large tanto features wrought bronze tsuba, menuki and other mounts, and stingray mounted handle with silk wraps. Following the style introduced by the ''tachi'' in the late Kamakura period, this tanto is forged longer and wider. The ''hamon'' (line of temper) is similar to that of the tachi, except for the absence of ''choji-midare''. Mid-Century forged in Japan by a master blademaker (l968-1969 purchased). The ''nakago'' or hilt is unsigned; the ''saya'' (sheath) is black lacquer with matching bronze mounts. Condition is excellent overall. Est.: $750-$1,000.
