Measuring13 1/2 inches overall, with an 8 1/4 inch blade, with botanical horimono on both sides, a 4 3/4 inch sakura tree on the left and a 5 1/2 inch stand of bamboo on the right. Both the hilt and sheath are finished in fine multi-layered gold lacquer, with silver fittings adorned with gold accented, deeply carved ocean wave patterns. Extensive shibayama inlay has been performed, with a mixture of mother of pearl and semi-precious stone, featuring floral arrangements in a vase and basket on the hilt, and the saya covered with a large forest scene, featuring a sakura tree in bloom with a lantern hanging from one branch, and a rooster perched in another, watching over a hen and two chicks as they drink from a small brook.

Condition:
Good, but incomplete. Rust is present on the blade, the kogatana and kurikata are absent, there is some chipping and lost material from the lacquer and shibayama. The silver components are attractively aged, with sharply executed engraving. The level of detail in the shibayama is impressive, right down to the bark of the tree, the ornamentation of the lamp, and the feathers of the birds.
