The hilt is inlaid with a multitude of mother-of-pearl fragments, and bears a raised gold-embellished ebony device on each side; the metal buttcap has remnants(?) of gold. The tsuba is incised iron with gold-inlaid decoration of a fan and hat/helmet(?). There are incised diagonally hatched lines on the base of the blade. The wooden scabbard is wrapped in red lacquered plaster strips, originally interspersed with copper wire (now missing except for fragments). Total length 39 1/4". Condition: the blade is in good condition; the metal elements on the hilt are loosened; the lacquer on the scabbard is chipping off, wire missing, with old tape on the end.
