Japanese Surrender Cover
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Very unique piece of WWII memorabilia, a commemorative cover postmarked upon the U.S. Missouri and signed by the key American players in the Japanese surrender. Envelope is signed in ink by President Harry Truman, Admiral Chester Nimitz, Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal, Secretary of War Henry Stimson, Chief of Staff of the Army and Marshall Plan creator George Marshall, and Secretary of State James Byrnes. All signatures are bold and legible, appearing on the front of the cover, which is postmarked and cancelled 2 September 1945 from the U.S. Navy about the battleship U.S.S. Missouri -- the place and day of the Japanese surrender. Cover is further stamped to lower left, ''Japanese Formal Surrender / U.S.S. Missouri / Sept 2 1945 / Tokyo Bay''. The upper left portion of the envelope contains an address of a naval man aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, perhaps the person who collected the signatures that historic day. A spectacular and scarce piece of history.
