Japanese Spherical Glass Fishing Floats c. 1950's
Featured in this lot is this Japanese spherical glass fishing floats circa 1950's. There are four floats in this collection. These floats were used to give buoyancy to fishing nets, long lines, and drop lines. These types of fishing buoys originate from as early as the 1840's - invented by a Norwegian merchant Christopher Faye, and modernized shortly after by Hadeslands Glassverk. The buoys are referred to as "Japanese Glass Floats" because most all of the remaining glass floats that exist today originate from Japan, and their ever-booming deep sea fishing industry. These hand blown floats originate from the mid-20th Century. The condition of these floats is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of these floats are 3" x 3 1/4" x 3 1/4 and 3" x 3" x 3".
