19th C. Japanese Satsuma jar with lid. The lid is adorned with two figures. The jar is decorated with geometric, floral and figural designs overall. There are several figural scenes around each panel of the jar. There are three applied bird/eagle heads with their long wings floating downward. The colors are vibrant gold, oranges, greens and reds. The jar, including the lid, stands 21" tall, 9" wide, weighs 13.5 lbs. The tallest figure on the top measures 5.25". Diameter of the bottom is 7", diameter of the opening of the jar is 6". There is a stress crack at the feet of the figures on the lid. Inside the jar there is an applied round piece of porcelain (directly behind one of the bird head).
