Late Edo period (1800~1849). Yoroi Bitsu black painted samurai armor storage box with iron handles and fittings, lock but no key. Measures 20 1/2"-H, 15 1/2"-W. Overall very good condition, intact with some scuffs, separation in the wood lid but sound. No Tomobako marks or family crests. Contains a samurai Hanbo style Menpo that protects the chin and cheeks , made with without nose guard. black lacquered exterior with red interior, three lame plate tare, throat guard laced with indigo blue cord. Has protruding Ase-Hagashi-No-Ana in chin. (perspiration dripping hole), two pegs in the form of bamboo stems are located on the sides of the chin. Their function is to help in the securing of the helmet tying cord. Overall very good condition with minor chips, cracks to the lacquer. Samurai thight guards. Haidate is the thigh guard of Samurai armor. Green material floral scroll design with white edges. lacquered leather plates held in place by indigo blue laces stitched to the material. There is separation of two of the plates on the bottom of the left thigh. Cords intact but frayed. Samurai Sode, large rectangular shoulder protection made from six horizontal, serrated iron plates secured with green lace attached to the green mesh backing. Overall good with some damage to one of the guards missing a couple of small pieces of the iron plates. Japanese Samurai Edo period ''Nodowa'' neck guard, made from lacquered leather. Samurai Nodowa, armor component worn tied around the neck to protect the wearer's throat. made by attaching two stages of small armor plates (Kozane Ita) to a crescent-shaped brown lacquered metal fitting called "Tsukigata", using a attached leather (Koumorizukegawa). It has been used since the Nanboku-cho period, and it was not used much by the end of the Muromachi period when the modern armor (Tousei Gusoku) face cheek (Menpo) quite elaborate, with intricate designs and ornamentation,Signature on the upper left collar. Samurai kabuto Vermilion shikoro neck guard. Four metal plates, the top three lacqured in red and the bottom plate in gold. Secured with brown braid lacing. Top plate has fukigaeshi flared edges. Very good condition. Samurai Kote, Suneate and Haidate Set. Kote is protection for arms and hands. There is a cylindrical-shaped fabric for each arm and iron chain mail with black lacquered iron plates attached. Interior of the hands is brown leather with dragonfly motifs, outer is blue with floral designs. Overall very good with some fraying to the material edges and some chips to the lacquer.
