Japanese Porcelain Geisha Sake Decanter Tokkuri with Cork Stopper Hakusen Kiln
This Japanese porcelain sake decanter, also known as a tokkuri, is modeled as a standing female figure identified by markings as the historical figure Kasuga no Tsubone. Produced at the Hakusen Kiln (Hakusen-gama), the vessel is constructed of glazed white porcelain featuring overglaze enamel and gilt decoration. The figure is depicted in a traditional white kimono adorned with polychrome floral motifs, specifically chrysanthemums in shades of blue, red, yellow, pink, and gold, with prominent red and light blue borders. The hair is styled in a traditional nihongami coiffure. The head and hair assembly function as a removable stopper fitted with a cork to seal the vessel. Per user-provided facts, the decanter currently contains liquid. The underside of the base contains three underglaze blue characters identifying the subject as Kasuga no Tsubone and three impressed characters for the Hakusen Kiln (Hakusen-gama). A circular blue Hakusen mark is located on the reverse shoulder. An original paper label is affixed to the back, printed with characters for Seishu Tokusen (Special Select Sake) along with ingredient and alcohol content information. This commemorative vessel was likely produced in Japan during the mid to late 20th century.
