1) The Netsuke piece appears to be ivory with Schreger lines. There are cracks that appear to be natural and in line with the grain. There is some residue on the piece and at first we thought the this netsuke may have been pieced together like some replicas, rather than carved from one piece of ivory, but under closer inspection it is difficult to determine. We recommend this piece be assessed by an experienced Netsuke authenticator. Approximately 30mm x 30mm. 2) Japanese Mudman figurine, appears to be authentic. He has the appearance of crackled ceramic and is made in the traditional size, style and coloring of antique pieces. We do not believe this to be a modern reproduction and guess his age to be early 1900s, or older. He measures about 60mm in height. 3) Very small monk figurine only 25mm tall, made of clay. This tiny little religious figure came from the same collection as the other Japanese figures (netsuke, okimono, mudman) in this sale. This type of figure is not known to us and we recommend additional research. This lot is one that may be a hidden treasure in this sale and worth a closer look. The value estimated here may not reflect the true value of this lot.
