Japanese "Mille Fleur" Cloisonne Low Vase / Bowl, ca. 19th century
Size: 6-1/4" diameter, 4-1/4" tall;
A stunning Japanese "Mille Fleur" cloisonne low vase / bowl. I rather call this a low vase than a bowl which seems allude to a food serving vessel. This low vase dates to mid/late 19th century, Edo/Meiji Period. The complicated pattern circumventing the bowl is "mille fleur" or 1000 flowers. This pattern is more commonly seen on porcelain forms. It is difficult to find in cloisonne. This is a very fine quality example with fine execution. The enamel colors are bold and vibrant, exuding warm tones and shades of autumn, of life and vitality.
The bowl is in excellent condition without any enamel loss or cracking. The bronze mouth and foot rim both exhibit a warm and rich dark brown-patina.
Condition Consensus: Excellent condition without any damage and or repair.
