Japanese Katana sword and scabbard, Shin Shinto circa 1870s. Blade possibly circa 1500's. WWII Field Scabbard in black lacquer and wrapped in black leather and with two large surrender labels reading (Naka Japan?). Single edged curved blade with nicely patinated tang, single hole. Nice blade with good polish and with a mild wave or blowing pattern to the Hamon. Earlier Namban Tsuba with waves and remnants of gold lacquer finish. Ray-skin wrapped tsuka handle wrapped in brown colored silk. Menuki circa composition of the sword cast in copper with intricate scenes to either side obscured with years of patination. Plain iron Kashira. Size 36 1/2" L, blade 25" L. Condition: Good condition overall with light patination and wear commensurate with age and use. Provenance: Ex-Southern California Collection
