Japanese Chisa Katana Sword,
an intermediate blade between the Katana and the Wakizashi, commonly worn at court. Hand-forged 18" single-edged steel blade, with beveled top edge with single Nakago-ana (mounting holes) in Nakago (tang) signed on left side, with Sugba type Hamon (temper line). The blade appears to have quite a good age and the Habaki is cast nickeled bronze. Hilt mounts include an filed brass Tsuba (guard), with open Kozuka Hitsu-ana and Sukashi (cut-outs), flanked by two plain brass Seppa and two copper O-Seppa. The grip has floral engraved brass Fuchi with matching Kabuto-gane (pommel), ray covered wood grip with brown cord wrap and single brass dragon form Menuki (crest figure), total length 22.75", less mounts. The Saya (scabbard) is lacquered wood with slot sheath on reverse for a missing Saya (small knife), inset with mother-of-pearl floral engraved brass Koiguchi (throat), with matching Ishizuke (drag) that match the Fuchi & Kabuto-gane on the hilt, total length 18.65".
Condition: Scattered spotting on blade, cord wrap on grip damaged, still VG.
