Just Recently Discovered. One of the last opportunities to own an important yet affordable work of art by one of Japan's greatest artists!

For lovers of Japanese art, it doesn't get any better than this. This is a diptych painting by Japan's first internationally acclaimed artist, Ogata Gekko, depicting Japan's first novelist, Murasaki Shikibu, in the act of writing Japan's greatest (and some say the world's first) novel, The Tale of Genji. And what a depiction it is! Lady Murasaki looks up from her writing when she hears the sound of a flock of birds in the distance. An inventive concept in Japanese diptych painting allows for two different perspectives of the same scene to be shown on the two canvases. Fortunately, this recently discovered painting has never been mounted and has been stored in a collection in Japan for quite some time, so the condition is Excellent and the colors, including the silver pigment highlights, are as vivid as the day it was painted. This is one of only three remaining Gekko color paintings that are on the market. The other two have a price tag of over $7,000, so this is a great opportunity and one of the last opportunities to acquire a rare and truly historic, museum quality work of Japanese art at an affordable price. Each painting is 38 x 13 inches, 96.5 x 33.5 cm
