<tr>
<td><em>
A delightful 19th Century painting by Japan's first internationally acclaimed artist, Ogata Gekko. It's a great price and an enjoyable investment!</em></td>

<tr>
<td width="100%">
Compare this to a painting similar in style, size and condition by Gekko that sold at Christie's March 29, 2005 auction for $4200 plus commission. This is a 19th Century Japanese Painting of Gama Sennin by Ogata Gekko with Original Silk Mount. Gama Sennin is a benign Japanese sage who is always accompanied by a toad. He possesses the secret of immortality. This painting of Gama Sennin employs softer brushwork than the other Gama Sennin painting by Gekko (see our Stock #103ai). Very Good to Fine Condition. It is a tall painting (six and a half feet tall). 78"(198cm) x 18"(46cm). Suibokuga, or sumi-e, are monochrome paintings that give a rather quiet impression compared with Western oil painting. They are painted directly without first sketching. This centuries-old art was actively practiced in Japan until about 100 years ago, and it is often said that Suibokuga truly captures the real ?beauty of Japan?.
