<Our item number 111515><B>Japan Handsome Mid 19th Century Katana Mounted For War Use.</B> A Shin-Shinto era katana with a signed shinogi-zukuri 27 3/4&#34; blade and a total length of 41&#34;. Brass menuki with horses motif; the fuchi/kashira &#40;top & bottom grip fittings&#41; are brass and decorated with birds and flowers. Blue colored tsuka-ito &#40;the silk wrapping&#41; with ray skin underneath. Iron pierced tsuba with outline of Mt. Fuji. Copper habaki with traces of gold wash. The wood saya &#40;scabbard&#41; is leather covered for military use in the field, likely during the 1931-45 period.<BR><BR>The blade has a suguha based ko-gunome temper of nioi. It is signed on the tang, &#34;Keishinsai Naomasa Tsukuru Kore&#34; &#40;Keishinsai Naomasa made this&#41;. Naomasa, who worked about 1864, was a student of the famous swordsmith &#34;Naotane&#34;, a premier teacher and founder of the Naotane School of Swordmaking in the Shin-Shinto period.
