January Mine and Ore Wagons Photograph
Shows early mining operations at the January Mine. Photo measures 8”x5”, no matte, high to medium contrast—minor yellowing, and focus is sharp. Photographer not identified, but the photo is consistent with the work of A. Allen of Goldfield. In this photo men are loading ore wagons at the January Mine. A stick frame building is being erected in the background. The January mining site was discovered by Charlie Taylor. Zanjani says that Lucien Patrick, John “January” Jones, and Zeb Kendall leased the January and February claims and formed the Goldfield Gold Mining Company, the district’s first incorporated mining company. “This was the first of the great leases that were to play a major role in Goldfield’s early development” [Zanjani, Goldfield].
