13.25" by 17" framed. A native of the Midwest, growing up in Goodland, Kansas and now living in Loveland, Colorado Janeen Schissler grew up with an interest in the arts and wildlife. She began her professional career in art in 1975 as a commercial artist and illustrator. In 1980, Janeen began to develop her expertise in wildlife watercolors, specializing in birds and nature scenes. Always striving for perfection in the realism of her subjects she spends much time hiking and exploring with camera and plein air pack. Janeen's style is high detail realism in drybrush watercolor. Her watercolors depict coastal scenes of wildlife, historic homes and gardens. In Loveland, she and her husband founded the Schissler Academy of Fine Arts, teaching classical realist methods. The promotional information for the school states that the Schissler Academy of Fine Arts is based on the underlying principles of drawing and painting taught by master painters since the Renaissance. The study of line, tone-value and basic color theory are the foundation for all mediums. In 2008, Janeen became director of The Studio Art School in Bellevue, Washington. Janeen has work in collections in the United States and Canada and has shown throughout the western United States in Wildlife and Western art shows including the prestigious American Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
