Jan van Leeuwen is focused on the production of cyanotypes and kallitypes; his works are regularly exhibited and increasingly traded on the international art market

Active in the double role as a photographer and his model, Jan van Leeuwen deals with the technique of cyanotype since 1991. His self-portraits accordingly appear in dark cyan blue tones and remind of hard-hitting body studies that go beyond the level of the mere reproduction of the visible parts. The present group of three cyanotypes provides a good impression of the artist’s unusual photographic aesthetic.

Each cyanotype is verso mounted on two points on a cardboard and presented in a passe-partout. One work is verso signed, dated and numbered with pencil ‘Leeuwen 1991 01/25’. Another work is verso titled, dated and numbered with pencil ‘Mo. ZV.03 Zelfportret Leeuwen Febr. 91 03/25’. The third work is verso fitted with a directional arrow. Two cyanotypes show traces of an old mounting on the verso. The image sizes vary between 30.4 x 24.1 cm and 40.2 x 29.8 cm. The sheet sizes vary between 31.5 x 25.2 cm and 41.3 x 31.5 cm.
