Handwritten manuscript, signed at the top, "Jan Tinbergen, Emeritus Professor, Erasmus University, Rotterdam," four pages, 8.25 x 11.75, no date. Draft for an article entitled "Introductory,” which reads, in part: “The role of technology in human development is undoubtedly a highly important one. Ever since economic thinking has become systematic enough to recognize economics as a science that role has found its place in economic theories. For quite some time, however, technology was considered as an autonomous entity, as something given to the economist; in other words, as an exogenous variable in economic problems.” Tinbergen adds a reference list at the conclusion. Included is a blue ballpoint signature, “J. Tinbergen,” on an off-white 5 x 3.5 sheet. In overall fine condition, with intersecting folds and some light creases.
