Tripp lives for his art, once spending several months at an insane asylum before rendering its patients on canvas. This commitment accounts for the honesty and heightened realism of the work.
Jan Peter Tripp was born in Oberstdof, West Germany in 1945. Between 1967 and 1970, he attended the Stuttgart Art Academy after which he studied under Rudolf Hausner at the Vienna Art Academy, from 1970 until 1972. .
Numerous museum shows have featured Tripp's work, including the Goethe Institute in Paris and in Toulouse; The State Gallery Peschkenhaus in Moers, West Germany; the State Gallery of Biberach, West Germany; Museum Amersfort in Holland; Museum of Warsaw in Poland, and the Montreal Museum in Canada. The artist lives and works in France.
