Irish-American former organized crime boss (born 1929) of the Winter Hill Gang in Boston who was captured on June 22, 2011, after over sixteen years of hiding. Two items: an ANS signed “James Whitey Bulger 1428AZ,” on the reverse of a glossy 5 x 3.5 photo of Alcatraz inmate Jack Twining, with Bulger adding Twining’s prison number, “AZ1362,” in the upper left corner. In part: “Jack Twining one of my best friends in prison—were in Atlanta—in Alcatraz—Jack killed Mallet a sexual predator—Good Riddance. This is the last photo of Jack alive. Released from prison after about 14 yrs. His life started in orphanage—then on downgrade—Reform School—State Prison—Chain Gang then Atlanta & off to Rock when closed to Terra Haute…Killed some cop in Ore. or Wash—shot it out with Ca. Highway Patrol—killed 4 of them—trapped put shot gun in mouth & pulled trigger, RIP Jack Peace at Last. Never had a chance or Good Day,” adding along the right, “on internet check highway patrolmen 4 kills story Newhall incident.” Also included is a glossy 5.75 x 4 photo of the main cell block at Alcatraz, with the reverse bearing a lengthy note written in the hand of Bulger, in full: “Guard walking down Broadway toward Mess hall—above mess hall going left & right is ‘Gun Walk’ screw patrole back and forth armed with 45 cal pistol & Springfield 03 Bolt action rifle. In 1946 convict named Coy climbed up on bars naked coated with grease & bar spreader got in to gun walk attacked guard beat him unconscious and took his pistol & rifle to hold off guards—police—Marines—FBI—soldiers. Cont. 2 guards killed many wounded. Night comes & gas, running, shooting at each other.” In overall fine condition.
