American author and poet (1849–1916) best known for writing in ‘Hoosier’ dialect and for his children’s poems. Original 4 x 6.5 black-bordered cabinet photo by John Ryder of Cleveland, signed below the image in black ink, “Faithfully yours, James Whitcomb Riley.” In fine condition, with small creases to top corner tips, as well as a small bit of surface loss, and a thin line of mounting remnants to reverse.
