American composer (1913–1990). He wrote songs for films and television and won four Academy Awards for Best Original Song, and an Emmy. TLS, one page, 7.5 x 10.5, personal letterhead, April 21, 1983. Van Heusen writes an admirer. In part: “If my music is of any use in raising your son, I will be delighted. At the present time I am only working on a couple of songs for my friend, Sinatra, no movies or shows unfortunately. I find it very difficult to do much writing these days because my brain does not really operate at full efficiency, the reason being that I had a brain tumor three years ago and have since had three operations on it. It is gradually getting better though, and I hope to come up with some songs real soon.” In fine condition.
