Writer and poet (1904–1979) best known for his Studs Lonigan trilogy. ALS, three pages, lightly-lined, 6 x 9, January 20, 1963. Letter to Marshall Bean. In part: “I am going to write out and send you some of my poems. I shall do so, shortly. I am under heavy pressure, and must write and finish some work. I am a struggling artist, and I believe that truth and human beings are more important than money, or even one’s life.” In fine condition, with signature a bit cramped on final page.
