ALS, two pages, 5.5 x 8.5, personal letterhead, March 2, 1936. Stewart writes to a fan at the beginning of his career. In part, “I want to apologize for not answering your letters before this. I have been pretty busy and then I must admit–I’m a pretty bad letter writer anyway. I hear that Mr. Swope was a little sharp over the phone the other day–please excuse that because he had worked late the night before and really didn’t mean to be rude. Thanks for the still and the pictures of you…I’m afraid I’ll be pretty busy for the next five or six weeks on a new picture at M. G. M. I’m having some pictures made–and I’ll send you one as soon as they are finished.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Stewart’s hand, with his name embossed on the back. In fine condition, with a bisecting horizontal mailing fold and mounting remnants to reverse of second page. Stewart made eight films during 1936. Handwritten letters from Stewart during the beginning of his career are scarce.
