James Polk CDV taken in February 1849 by Mathew Brady. Polk, the eleventh President, would turn the White House over to Zachary Taylor the following month. He is the earliest President whose photos taken in office still survive. ''E. & H.T. Anthony, 501 Broadway, New York. / From Photographic Negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery'' is stamped on the verso. Very good condition.
