Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Jas. Monroe,” one page, 12.5 x 11, November 28, 1801. As governor of Virginia, Monroe grants unto Joseph Bell, Sr., a "certain Tract or Parcel of Land, containing Nineteen acres…in the country of Berkeley on what is called Beargarden ridge." Neatly signed at the conclusion by Governor Monroe. Nicely matted with an engraved portrait and framed to an overall size of 26 x 16.5. In fine condition, with all handwriting, including the signature, a couple of shades light.
