Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 12.5 x 9.25, May 5, 1818. President Monroe grants "William Douglass, late a Private in the twenty third Regiment of Infantry, a certain Tract of Land, containing one Hundred and Sixty acres." Boldly signed at the conclusion by President Monroe and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office Josiah Meigs. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left corner remains intact. In fine condition, with some light soiling and faint staining; Monroe's signature is remarkably bold.
