Third-person ALS, signed “Mr. Monroe,” one page, 7.25 x 4.5, no date but docketed April 25, 1786. Handwritten letter to Henry Knox, addressed by Monroe to "The humble Gen'l Knox," in full: "Mr. Monroe's comp'ts to Gen'l Knox—the committee upon the committee upon the subject suggested to him the other day will meet tomorrow at 10 o'clock in the state house I will be happy in the favor of his company—Tuesday evening." In very good to fine condition, with a strip of toning along the top edge and sections of the address panel excised. An important association piece between two founders, both of whom fought alongside Gen. George Washington at the Battle of Trenton. Knox would go on to serve as the first United States Secretary of War, and Monroe would become the nation's commander-in-chief as the fifth president of the United States. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
